Lauren Aguilar is a rising senior studying Architecture and American Studies at UC Berkeley. At UC Berkeley she leads a program that conducts restoration and research on the historic Greene & Greene Thorsen House. After graduating, she hopes to pursue an M. Arch degree.
Lauren is interested in adaptive reuse and the potential for adaptive reuse strategies in historic preservation and community development. As someone with many food allergies, Lauren is interested in food systems, using design change the way Americans grow, distribute, and consume food.
Through the backyard project, she hopes to broaden her understanding of urban agriculture and the effect of landscape development on the community. She looks forward to the applied science and research that will precede the design process and hopes to be able to generate a discussion and inspire the city to pursue the potential for privately owned public open space.
